Tierra Educational Center is a local, family-owned, Spanish language center providing Spanish classes for adults from a wide range of professions and backgrounds. We are seeking an administrative assistant to manage our front desk, providing support to our students and staff, and helping coordinate the wide range of Spanish classes we offer. Our ideal candidate is a proactive, outgoing, detail-oriented, and highly organized individual with exceptional communication and customer service skills who will be highly capable of executing tasks independently while coordinating work with supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work in-person at our center in NE Portland. Contact with others is minimal, most communication is conducted by phone and email. COVID precautions in place.
  • Provide friendly customer service in all front-desk communications - by phone, email, and occasionally in-person.
  • Answer questions about our Spanish and cultural course programs to prospective students.
  • Serve as liaison in communications between students, instructors, and directors.
  • Manage and record student registrations.
  • Coordinate and manage instructor calendars.
  • Organize and manage class rosters and attendance records.
  • Support the logistical coordination of group and private classes.
  • Support current students with schedule requests, missed class material and homework.
  • Perform outreach to inform potential students about current course offerings.
  • Organize and manage office supplies.
  • Maintain tidiness of work area, some light cleaning tasks.
  • Occasional lifting in excess of 25 lb.

REQUISITE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant work experience in an administrative setting is highly valued
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently execute and prioritize work tasks, and to adapt to both slow and fast paced periods.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and initiative to achieve best results, enjoys working alone.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills, ability to convey information effectively, maintain confidentiality, and apply discretion.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and phone etiquette.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency. Familiar with Zoom and Google suite including Google calendar, spreadsheets, and contacts; comfortable managing numerous documents simultaneously.
  • Strong and accurate typing skills
  • Authentic interest in Spanish language and culture, Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position offers a minimum of 30 hours per week, M-F. Schedule is negotiable. Compensation is $19-$22/hr depending on qualifications and experience. Employment  benefits include comprehensive health/dental plan and paid time off.
