December 2025 - Rachel Plotinsky

Steadfast in her determination, Rachel has been truly dedicated to her Spanish studies over the past three years and her skill-level has sky-rocketed. An infectious disease physician who has opportunities to engage with Spanish-speaking patients, she shows genuine interest in building bridges with the Spanish-speaking community and making others feel seen. A kind and welcoming classmate who has been in many groups with many teachers both online and in-person, Rachel is highly adaptable and has a great sense of humor. Her desire for deep understanding and nuance inspire her wonderful questions and observations that enrichen the learning experience for everyone. We are honored to count Rachel among our amazing student community and look forward to continuing to see her march toward fluency.

1) Why are you studying Spanish?

"I am studying Spanish because I enjoy learning another language and exercising my brain".

2) What is your favorite part about your experience here at Tierra?

"I enjoy the comfortable, inviting atmosphere, and the ability to take classes either in person or online. Trying to speak a foreign language can be intimidating sometimes, but I've always felt comfortable at Tierra".

3) Can you tell us of a time you have been able to use what you have learned studying here?

"At my work we use interpreters to communicate with Spanish-speaking patients, but knowing Spanish still helps me to better understand and connect with my patients".
