Small Group Class Policies:

1. Tierra Educational Center (TEC) offers high quality, well designed and progressive courses at different Spanish levels each with a standard duration of 10 classes. Group class size is between 4 and 9 students.

2. Regular (once/week) Spanish courses meet for 1 hour and 50 minutes, with a 5 minute break in the middle. Intensive (twice/week) Spanish courses are 90 minutes in length, with no break.

3. Depending on availability, some Regular (once a week) courses may be joined at the mid-point for the second half (5 classes) at the beginning of the mid-term session.

4. A course registration payment is for personal use, is non-refundable and non-transferable between students and only valid for the specific term noted on your registration form and/or payment.

5. The registration fee for a group class cannot be pro-rated by class. The actual cost of an individual class is much higher than the pro-rated class value based on the course fee.

Age Restrictions: Enrollment in our small-group Spanish classes is open only to adults age 18 and over. For students under the age of 18, please inquire about our private tutoring services. By participating in the Online class, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age. TEC assumes no responsibility or liability for any misrepresentation of your age.

Missed Class Policy: Due to logistical/administrative limitations and our commitment to preserving a comfortable group dynamic, we are not able to arrange for anyone to make up a class by attending a different group class where the student is not enrolled. As a courtesy, we keep track of attendance and  we will send you an email with a description of the material covered in the class and any homework given if we find you missed a class. Please also inquire about our discounted private one-hour make-up lessons for current students if you would prefer a more thorough missed material review.

Cancellation/Withdrawal Policy:  If you must cancel your registration, contact us as soon as possible.  Due to the organizational and administrative costs of planning small-group courses, we can only offer a refund of tuition minus a $150 administrative fee up to 48 hours before the start time of the course. Course fees will be non-refundable if you cancel your registration less than 48 hours’ before the first class session or at any point thereafter.

Online Classes Agreement:

A. It is the responsibility of each student to have the required equipment and internet setup in order to connect to our online classes offered through the platform ZOOM. We are happy to offer some troubleshooting advice but in the end it is your sole responsibility to make your computer or device's configuration work to connect to your class. We strongly recommend that you test your equipment before connecting to your class and that you become  familiar with the Zoom app or client software. You can find useful links and information on how to do this here.

B. The Internet is inherently an unpredictable environment and therefore there may be from time to time unexpected interruptions, decrease in the quality of the connection, or a complete disruption of the service. Depending on the severity of any such event happening TEC will try to reschedule a class if it is deemed necessary, however this can’t always be guaranteed. Students won’t be entitled to any refunds due to unexpected system downtimes or interruptions. We appreciate your understanding.

C. We encourage our students to follow video conference etiquette guidelines, for example taking your class in an appropriate space free of noise or other distractions and staying in that space for the duration of the class. Muting  your microphone when there may be noise in your space, becoming  familiar with the Zoom meeting controls software and raising your hand before speaking. Taking these considerations will enable everyone to have a pleasant online experience.

D. No warranties: You agree that your participation in the Online class is at your sole and exclusive risk. TEC makes no warranties that the online class will meet your needs or that the platform (ZOOM) we use to establish our online meetings will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. You agree that any damage that may occur to you, through your computer or device used to connect to your class, or as a result of loss of your data from your participation in the Online class is your sole responsibility and that we are not liable for any such damage or loss.

In the unlikely event that TEC must cancel a course due to low enrollment, or other unforeseen circumstances we will notify students as soon as possible. Students may either receive a full refund of any fees paid, transfer their registration to another course during that same term (based on availability), or use the fees paid as credit towards a course the following term. TEC is not responsible for losses incurred to students due to travel, class materials or other arrangements.
